How to compare paper towel prices

If a package prints its total square footage or square meters, choose Use the package's listed total area and enter only its price and area. Otherwise, choose Calculate from sheet details; the calculator multiplies rolls × sheets per roll × sheet width × sheet length. It then divides the price by the chosen total area.

Rolls and sheets per roll are optional when you use listed total area. Adding them enables the secondary cost-per-roll and cost-per-sheet results, but they are not needed to determine the best price per square foot.

    Select-A-Size and half sheets

When calculating from sheet details, enter the width and length of one perforated section listed on the package. There is no need to classify it as a full, half, or select-a-size sheet; its measured area handles the comparison.

    Sources & methodology

The calculator uses only the price and package-label values you enter; it has no brand presets. Area is calculated from standard unit conversions: 144 square inches equal one square foot, and 929.0304 square centimeters equal one square foot. A printed package total can be used directly instead.

Manufacturer terminology varies. For example, Bounty currently defines Double, Triple, Mega, and Mega XL rolls by sheet-count multiples of its own Regular Roll, and describes Select-A-Size as customizable sheet sizes. That makes the printed counts and dimensions—not the label alone—the useful cross-package inputs. Bounty product information.

Paper area is not an absorbency or strength score. Different products can perform differently even at the same area, and this calculator does not infer cleaning ability from brand, ply, or dimensions.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Enter each package price and either its printed total area or the roll count, sheets per roll, and dimensions of one perforated sheet. Compare cost per square foot because sheet sizes can differ.

Not by itself. Rolls can contain different sheet counts and sheet sizes, so cost per area is a more consistent measure of paper quantity.

Two packages can have the same sheet count but different amounts of paper. Multiplying width by length accounts for the area of each sheet.

A manufacturer may define a roll label relative to its own regular roll, but the reference varies by product line. Use the measurable sheet count and dimensions printed on each package.

Use square footage for the primary price comparison because it accounts for different sheet sizes. Cost per sheet remains a useful secondary result.
