Photos can store information alongside the visible image, including camera and lens details, when a photo was taken, editing software, copyright information, and potentially GPS coordinates. EXIF is one common format; images can also contain XMP, IPTC, comments, and text metadata.
A clean copy can limit the personal or technical details shared when you post or send an original image. This is particularly useful when a photo contains location data. The tool never sends coordinates to a map or any other service.
JPEGs that do not depend on an EXIF orientation tag are cleaned without recompressing their image data. PNG and WebP metadata chunks are also removed without changing pixels, transparency, dimensions, or animation. A JPEG that relies on EXIF orientation is rendered in its correct orientation and re-encoded at high quality so it will not turn sideways when that tag is removed.
