How to make a Bluesky profile photo

  1. Choose a JPG or PNG image.
  2. Position and zoom it within the circular guide.
  3. Choose the largest no-enlargement size, a medium size, or 400 × 400.
  4. Download and confirm the result is no more than 1 MB.

Bluesky avatar specifications

Bluesky’s official app.bsky.actor.profile schema accepts JPEG and PNG avatars and caps the blob at 1,000,000 bytes. The schema does not state minimum, recommended, or maximum pixel dimensions. This tool therefore uses 400 × 400 as a practical small option and caps browser output at 4096 × 4096 without presenting either as an official Bluesky dimension.
