How to resize a Twitter (X) profile photo

  1. Choose a JPG or PNG image.
  2. Position the subject inside the circular guide.
  3. Choose the largest no-enlargement size, a medium size, or the recommended 400 × 400.
  4. Download and check that the status reports no more than 2 MB.

Twitter and X profile picture size

X (formerly Twitter) officially recommends 400 × 400 pixels and sets a maximum profile-photo file size of 2 MB. Its help page lists JPEG, GIF, and PNG; this editor exports JPG or PNG because it does not preserve GIF animation. X does not publish a maximum profile-photo pixel dimension there, so the tool’s 4096 cap is a processing limit, not an X specification.
